Sustainable & Ethical Production
Sterna’s designs express our bond with nature, so our manufacturing methods and products should reflect our values. Each phase in our supply chain is designed to positively impact the environment. It is one of the world’s most efficient circular supply chains for fashion, starting with using organic cotton for textile production and ending with shipping products in plastic-free packaging.
The Materials
Our raw textiles are made from GOTS-certified agricultural products such as 100% organic cotton or recycled organic materials. Producers and the environment benefit from organic cotton farming. Instead of toxic pesticides and fertilisers, co-planting and insect traps are used along with cow poo to encourage biodiversity. It also makes the textile extra soft. The fashion industry produces about 90 tonnes of waste, and the UK contributes almost 300 thousand tonnes. By wearing our merchandise, you help us reduce the clothing industry’s adverse effects on the environment.
The Manufacturing Process
Our designs are printed using eco-friendly and water-based paint in factories powered by renewable energy sources. The ingredients in our products have been tested for harmful substances and have the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certification. Each order is drawn seconds after purchase and prepared to be delivered to your doorstep, so they’re manufactured only to meet the demand. This method prevents 40% of the industry's never-worn, excess clothing production. In addition, our products are made to be recycled and remanufactured. We strive to offer long-lasting and high-quality products so you can enjoy them for years.
Plant a Tree with Each Purchase
On top of it all, we contribute to the forestation of the Earth with your help—your purchases. Our business partners lead over 5,000 tonnes of carbon emissions prevention with their tree plantation programme.
Our Certifications
Let’s find out which certifications we hold and what they mean.
STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®
OEKO-TEX 100 means that all components of our products are tested for harmful substances and pose no threat to human health. So, you can wear and use our products with peace of mind, knowing that their textiles or inks are safe.
SA8000 Standard
SA in SA8000 stands for “Social Accountability.” The certification means that the factories and workshops meet high standards for their workers. For example, they do not impose forced labour and pay their employees a living wage.
Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)
GOTS certification means that independent GOTS inspectors audited and approved our raw materials and manufacturers for social and ecological criteria. These criteria include but are not limited to the absence of pesticides in the agricultural process, the use of organic fibres, and the audition of processing stages.
